What am I thinking?

Good question new friends! My name is Colin Campbell. I live in Arlington, VA and I invented DONUTBALL in April 2025 after creating many different types of outdoor/indoor/yard games for fun and for friends' weddings for oh so many years.

I finally arrived on the Donutball concept and setup largely through the process of deduction - for what other games lacked and/or elements  & limitations that really bother me. I wanted a game that felt familiar and involved throwing and catching a ball, but could be carried simply and played anywhere (even in a tight space), plus could be adjusted easily for adults and kids (I have 7 and 9 year old daughters) …AND could be played in the POOL! That’s a lot of requirements - jeesh.

See the graphic below for the progression of the design of the game - the prototypes have come a long way from foam board to hand-cut wood to laser cut & UV printed to finally - amazing INJECTION MOLDED components!

I wanted a game that is great for drinking and partying AND awesome if you have an aversion to alcohol and think parties are lame. And then I got  the trademark, filed for a utility patent, and have spent oodles & oodles of time trying to source and get good pricing on all the Donutball components = boo yah!

SO .... DOES THIS GAME MATTER?


We think so. Fun things are good things in this day and age! I have always loved building community in many ways - getting people together to hang out, meet new friends, do fun activities, and try new endeavors. 

  • This has come in many forms, from throwing great themed house parties, producing live concerts and killer block parties, gaming it up for poker nights, planning flag football and polish horseshoes tourneys, to doing an annual beach weekend running for 20 years now and more. 
  • I often try to incorporate games of all kinds (be it yard games, bar games, board games, watching playoffs, etc) because I love competition and think it brings people together.
  • I have been inventing and modifying games and sports since I was a kid and in my adult years have invented a few games for family weddings, for parties, and for my kids and their friends. 
  • I have been seeking a new, better yard game for years that incorporated the things I liked about current games and did away with the annoying aspects & limitations of many current games.
  • Plus, this game is educational and counts are training: it really works on your hand-eye coordination, movement, and catching and tossing skills - for adults and kids - it's just like the COMBINE.

When the idea for DONUTBALL finally hit me in 2025, I got excited. Then I tested with so many different people in different places over the last year and got great feedback, so I decided it was time to commercialize it. Thank you for your interest
